Butterscotch

November 19, 2016 by

To My Dearest Butterscotch, I only ever had one other cat besides you, Samantha. I loved Samantha but she was not the friendliest cat, and left me with no desire to adopt another cat. It wasn’t until my late 20s, some prodding from my sister, and a desire to give John a lap buddy that I thought about adopting a cat. I remember first meeting you among the other dozen or so cats you were living with. You were perfect! I loved looking at your coloring and feeling how velvety your ears were. Those first few weeks were a transition though! But you were always the most loving and sweet cat I’ve ever met. I don’t think I heard you hiss more than one or two times in the twelve years you spent with us. We became so use to having you on our lap that we often would look down not realizing you had been sitting there for some time already. You were plump (“Butterball” as your grandpa Feeney would like to call you) but stealth! Even through the last three years of constant weight loss and failing health, you remained forever sweet and loving. You will always be in my heart and mind. I, we, love you so much and greatly miss you. Give Gabby a nudge and rub and know you will be forever in our hearts. You changed my heart towards cats but after having you, I don’t know if any other cat can ever measure up to the love you gave me and John. Love you, Mommy and Daddy.

Your beloved pet is sick

What are the next steps? How do you make this final period of your companion’s life as peaceful as possible? Read more...
