Cooper

November 19, 2016 by

Cooper

Nov 10, 2010 – July 5, 2016

Sadly our beloved Cooper has lost his yearlong battle with cancer.  There is an empty spot in my heart the size and shape that perfectly fits a Great Dane.

Cooper was not “just a dog”, he was our fur-baby from the moment we rescued him and he became a part of our family.  Our gentle giant was a goofy playful guy who loved to play with his squeaky toys and full size football fetch.  Full size soccer balls would be stolen away in his mouth and run around the house.  There was no such thing as “personal space” as he would sit on your lap whenever you were sitting down, front paws still firmly on the ground, or sit next to you snuggled on the sofa, or laying full length snuggled closely on the bed.  Every morning there would have to be a “sit-step” at the top of the stairs for belly rubs, ear and chin scratches, and snuggles before heading downstairs and outside….he had a unique and dynamic personality!

Super Cooper beat the odds several times during his lifetime – first surviving a broken leg as a puppy that the irresponsible breeder never had set.  The ortho vets at CSU worked with us for months to come up with a plan to repair that leg, and we did.  He was stoic throughout!  Then the dreaded cancer with a prognosis of 2 weeks to 2 months – again he fought through and we were blessed with another year of his presence.

Now he leaves behind many happy memories and hearts that need to mend.  Rest In Peace sweet boy!

Your beloved pet is sick

The diagnosis and subsequent prognosis aren't good. Now is the time to contemplate advanced animal hospice care or putting your pet to sleep (euthanasia). But where do you turn for help? What are the next steps? How do you make this final period of your companion’s life as peaceful as possible? Read more...
