Kahlan, you were but a wee bit of fur when you adopted me in 2001 when you were a stray six week-old puppy. I wasnt quite ready for you yet, but your wise soul knew I needed you.
You were there for me for eleven years, helping me through many tough times. Fortunately, I was able to share so many adventures with you, including numerous multi-state road trips, and two chances to fly in your private plane. You were also there to assist me on many a day and night when I was working for the FBI, earning your own radio call-sign. Fortunately you also got to retire with me, which allowed us to be constant companions for the last 3 years.
You were an especially good companion for camping, backpacking and hiking. We have covered many a mountain trail together with you leading the way. Eager as you were to explore, youd always turn back to make sure you werent getting too far ahead of me.
Yes, there is no doubt you were my furchild. Im so glad you also let your Daddy Sam into your heart when his life joined with ours four years ago, he also came to love you deeply, Little Bit. Thank you for being our witness at our handfesting ceremony; we were honored.
My sweet lassie, you could always bring a smile to the faces of anyone you met. You loved well and you were well-loved. You will be sorely missed but the memories of the joy you brought us all will endure.
Kahlan, daughter of my heart, my love to you always. On the hike you are taking now you have permission to go on ahead of me. Enjoy the land of slow chipmunks and unlimited treats! I will join you again at the Rainbow Bridge.
