Kali

Kali Marie Walker

May 1990 – September 2008

On September 24th, 2008, I said goodbye to my best friend and closest confidante of the last 18 years. I couldn’t let her suffer or deteriorate any further from the complications due to her diabetes and kidney problems. Kali was with me my entire adult life; I had her since she was a month old and fit in the palm of my hand. She stood by me in all of my ups and downs over the last 18 years, always by my side and offering everything she could.

Kali was the runt of a litter but had a lot of Maine Coon in her. She was a very small Maine Coon of about 15 pounds. She loved to hunt and loved water – except when I dunked her in the tub for a bath. She even liked to play fetch. Kali lived with me in Texas, California, and Colorado and was an integral part of life through all of my phases and moves. She was always helping me out with spider patrol – I really don’t like spiders and she would usually take care of them for me. Over the years I knew a number of her 9 lives were used up on different accidents and circumstances. But she rebounded every time. As she got older, she developed diabetes and kidney problems. Giving her insulin shots twice a day and subcutaneous fluids several times a week didn’t slow her down much. But recently she did start to slow down and I knew she was fighting to stay with me and continue to do her best supporting me. I finally had to release her from her suffering and say goodbye. My Kali-girl was truly a special companion and will be greatly missed. I love you Kali!
