Goodbye to our unbelievably sweet, loyal and dearest companion, Kirby (A.K.A. Special K, Kirbster, Moose, Big Dog, Kirba-rama-drama…). You came to us 8 years ago rescued by Grfr Rescue – weighing 150+ lbs after being surrendered by your original family from a farm in Nebraska- I can still see you jumping out of the back of Rick’s car arriving at our home as a “foster” (which you quickly thereafter became a “foster failure”). And that was that. You immediately were part of our family. The bond you had with our other Golden, Sophie (A.K.A. “Sofa Mart”) was beautiful – your first girlfriend – you were inseparable. As time passed, there were other rescued girls -Goldie Bear (your 2nd girlfriend), who came to us an emaciated 47 lbs of quivering uncertainty from Arkansas, and Taylor, our Shetland Sheepdog from the Sheltie Shack in Kansas- and you loved and protected them like they had always been with you. Goldie will miss so much about you…laying butt to butt, the way the two of you would sniff each other’s heads, drinking from the same water bowl…her intense sadness at your passing is palpable. Yesterday you left us, in the most amazing, peaceful way, surrounded by your dog loves and your human loves, with the help of Dr. James from Home to Heaven https://www.hometoheaven.net/ , you crossed the Rainbow Bridge laying on your favorite tile near our front door entryway, Goldie snuggled up against you. As much as we knew your time was here, the letting go of you is no small thing. You filled our home with all that you were – big, clumsy, panting unconditional love who greeted us with the most amazing welcome back whenever we returned – Every.Single.Time.
We will miss you more than words can say. Rest in peace.
