Nine months after Lila (the Treeing Walker Coon Hound) lost her best friend Jager to cancer she went into end of life kidney failure and has now joined him. She was the most loyal, patient, stubborn, stoic, silly dog I have ever known. She taught me the importance of laughter and that is how I will remember her. When she shook her head you could hear ears and lips flapping and slobber flew everywhere. She danced and sang and was a dog’s dog. Every dog loved Lila and she loved them right back. I never once heard her growl- I don’t think she was capable. She proudly brought me the gifts of a dead blue jay and a dead robin in the same morning – I think that’s how she wound up in a shelter as a failed bird retriever, I am not sure but I am eternally grateful for the 10 years we had together once I found her. I picture my two babies running in the grass at the farm at Home to Heaven and am so grateful for that too. You made this tough year so much easier than it could have been otherwise- they were in good hands and I can’t thank you enough. I have peace of mind knowing they left earth with a lot of love.
