Meggy

November 19, 2016 by

Our Meggy came into our lives unplanned. It was a cold mid-December, 1999. We were doing some Christmas shopping in the local mall and I happened upon the pet store there mostly just to look inside and take a break from the holiday madness. In an upper cage, all alone and among a line of other cages that were empty sat this little girl. She looked sad and alone. My wife was shopping elsewhere in the mall at the time. I asked the pet store attendant if I could hold the Corgi; she obliged. That was all it took. This little girl needed a home and despite our best intentions not to support pet-shop dogs, I could not tear myself away from her. My wife ended up wandering in and saw me there with the Corgi. She had this look in her eyes like, “oh boy, here we go…” We brought our girl home that evening and quickly named her Megan. It was one of the silliest things we’ve done in our lives because you don’t want to bring a puppy home in the middle of winter… lot’s of going outside for potty training in the snow. We never regretted doing so however, and our Meggy became an integral part of our lives for 15 years. She saw her older sister leave and saw two new brothers come into our lives during the course of hers. She was the patriarch of the house and kept our younger male Corgis in check always and with a deft paw. Meggy had simple pleasures… rolling in the snow among her most favorite. She also loved rolling in the grass and frapping as Corgis do so well. She needed no toys and was happy to call the landing on the stair case her throne. She only asked for our love and attention and was absolutely content every time we gave it to her – which we did endlessly. She was so gentle and beautiful right up until the day we said goodbye to her. We enjoyed a perfect day with her in the warm fall sun and green grass on her last day – a day we will always treasure. We loved her dearly and always will. She will be a part of our lives forever, and we could not have enjoyed our lives as much as we have for these past 15 years without our girl Meggy. You are in our hearts and minds always, sweet girl.
