We adopted Midnight and his kennel-mate Mesa in New Mexico in 1998. My young daughters and I went to the shelter in Sante Fe and they each picked out a puppy. My younger daughter, who was about seven picked out Midnight- all black except for a little white patch on his chest, like the moon. He was a sweet and shy little guy, but one of those dogs that needs a job. So he decided that he would be “the shoe dog” carrying around your shoes. He was very proud of this. We always told him that he was very important. He grew into a pretty big long dog, and proved his great instincts one day at the dog park when he intercepted a big dog running amock about to crash into my daughter- he ran right between the charging dog and my daughter, surely saving her from injury! Mid also really loved people. When we went to the dog park he just walked from person to person to say hello. I hope that he is in heaven right now carrying around shoes and saying hello to everybody!
We love you Mid- and always will!
