Minnie

November 19, 2016 by

This is our beautiful Minnie. I say “our” because she was a best friend to our entire family. I was about 9 years old when we got her at the Humane Society. She was a puppy and had been found abandoned on the side of a road when she was a tiny baby. She was put up for adoption but returned, and then we found her and never let her go. As a puppy she had ears that reminded my parents of The Flying Nun.

She was the smartest dog we’d ever met and learned tricks and behavior so quickly it was unbelievable! She always had to have something in her mouth to show us when we got home or when she got excited. She would prance around and roll her head in excitement of you looking at what she had to show you. One of the funniest things I remember is being outside and asking Minnie—“Whatcha got??—and there were no toys or anything around to grab….so she grabbed a dried leaf to show me and pranced around with it. She loved chasing flashlights and laser pointers, and even went sledding with me (in the sled) one winter. She also loved to bark. When we would get home, Minnie would just sit and bark for 10 minutes and it was strange but funny and endearing. She would roll around in the house and make noises that sounded like a grizzly bear had been released in our living room. She would never run away from home even if she got out of the backyard. When she did get out, she’d go wait on the front porch for us to get home. She was my dad’s shadow around the house and never missed the opportunity to get a treat or peanut butter. She loved to go in the baby pool during the summer. Last summer I shaved her for the first time to help with the heat and I’ve never seen her so happy as when she looked like a shaved lamb!

Minnie developed severe arthritis and Cushing’s disease with her old age which took a large physical toll on her, but she never lost her spunky, funny personality. It was incredibly hard to say goodbye to our little girl but I’m so thankful she was able to be at home in her favorite spot and with everyone from our family around her. We had 13.5 beautiful years together and we will never forget her. We love you with all our hearts Min, and will miss you every day until we meet again. <3 xoxoxoxox=”” p=””>
