Little Mokey was born in the bushes under our living room window, to Lily, the sweet feral cat we’ve been helping for 1 1/2 years (She is now neutered). Mokey was her only kitten to survive, and Lily allowed me to take him when he was playing in our front yard. What a sweetheart! We hadn’t had a kitten in 20 years, and what joy he brought us. He loved to be loved.
We kept him as an indoor kitten, but he loved to poke his head out the front door when we fed his mom. She remained loving to him, always using her paw (no claws) to gently nudge him back into the house.
Unfortunately, dear Mokey inherited multiple health problems, with vision loss the first one noted. We only had him with us for six months before he developed liver failure in the prime of his adolescence. It was, and remains, heartbreaking. He was supposed to grow old with me. Dr. Lisa came to our home on December 23rd, 2014, and talked us through the process, conforting us at every step. We are so grateful. I miss him every day.
