Mowgli

November 18, 2016 by

Our Beloved Mowgli,
Remember when you ate the peach pie we had made for Dad’s birthday? Unrepentatant, even after I smacked you. I was so mad!! The look of bliss on your face as you licked peaches and pie crust from your lips. I loved when your lip would curl under and you would walk around with a goofy look on your face. I can’t tell you how many times I delighted in watching you run ahead of me through the woods. Searching for the perfect scent, adding a few of your own. Sun shining on your copper fur. People loved you and thought you were beautiful. You loved some people and others could care less about you and we never could tell who it would be. You were noble and goofy. Me taking you everywhere with me for work and you simply following wherever I went. The time we took you to the beach in Oregon and you ran in joyous doggie circles in the sand, then looked at us as if to say “this is the best thing ever! Why didn’t you guys do this sooner!? ” You loved puppies, were kind to babies and toddlers, could handle yourself in any doggie situation. You hated to be left behind when we would we go on a trip, so we didn’t go much, cause we loved being with you and pictured you staring at the door the entire time we were gone waiting for our return, which you did. You would sit in front of the fire until you were panting with heat but still wouldn’t move. A professional and artistic napper. The way you would follow me when I couldn’t sleep, curling up and making sure you were there, wherever I was. The way you liked to be covered with a blanket when you laid down. Or in the middle of the night, almost every night, jumping up onto the bed crawling under the covers, sighing and curling your big body up in the crook of my body, I loved to snuggle you. Sometimes you would just roll around on your back singing your own happy dog song. You hung out in the garden with me while I puttered, and you sniffed. you napped while i worked on the computer and then was always up for a run, unless it was too freakin’ cold or too freaking hot. The way you would wag your tail and bounce along as I would sing you “We’re going on a little walk” song. You let me make up stupid pet names for your like, Pumpkin Noodle, or Peanutbutternut or Dorkus or Big Doonkoff, Mowg, Mooda wa. You let me put a sweater on you. You ate almost anything I offered including tofu, fruit, and pickles. I spoiled you rotten with cushy beds and tasty treats. You would help me make a fire by breaking twigs up for me. The time you put your nose through the window in the middle of the night cause you wanted to get the raccoon outside. I loved it all Mowgli, every single day. You were the joy of my life and I am so grateful and happy that you spent your life with me. Part of my heart is with you wherever you are.
