18 years ago, I was checking my mailbox and saw a handwritten post: free kittens, 8 weeks old, first set of vaccinations and litter box trained. I called to to tell them that I will come by after work to pick one up and after getting cat supplies since I didn't have anything. By the time I got there, only one kitten was left. I took him and he became my baby. I had an 8 month old puppy as well and the kitten adored her. I came home one day to find the kitten in Maddy's mouth. I freaked, but Maddy just opened her mouth and the kitten came out all happy and slobbery. I named him Spike after the vampire in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, since he was all black and had spiked fur from all the slobber. The last few days were hard. I had to bring him his water, try to get him to eat and carry him to his litter box. His body was failing and I had to let him go. He is now free from the confines of his old frail body and has his wings. Maddy and Spike get to play together again.
