Riley Dog

November 19, 2016 by

Riley was our 13-year old Black Lab with the most unique personality. The only true way to describe her is as “Riley”. She was one of a kind and a constant contradiction. From her beginnings in Grass Valley, CA she stood out being born the only black female, as the other four pups were yellow boys. We picked her because she was so sweet and gentle. To this day we joke that she totally tricked us!

Although Riley possessed many common lab traits – love of any food, boundless energy for hikes and swims, fondness of car rides and overall good natured spirit, what we loved most were her unique characteristics. Riley was an indoor girl and loved the finer comforts of home. She opted for naps on a plush sofa or human bed over afternoon in a backyard. She liked her personal space and was awkwardly affectionate only when she was interested. Riley was sweet, yet bossy, independent and joyfully rambunctious.

It has been said a dog comes into your life to guide you through a particular journey. We are so fortunate that Riley shared our path leading us from a fun, adventurous (crazy) young couple into a rooted family of four. She taught us how to be parents and love someone unconditionally.

As we sadly say goodbye to Riley, we will carry her in our hearts and memories never forgetting her silly soul. We love you Doody – “Whose a Good Girl?”

Your beloved pet is sick

The diagnosis and subsequent prognosis aren't good. Now is the time to contemplate advanced animal hospice care or putting your pet to sleep (euthanasia). But where do you turn for help? What are the next steps? How do you make this final period of your companion’s life as peaceful as possible? Read more...
