Rizzo

November 19, 2016 by

Rizzo came to us as a rescue. I remember the day so vividly, there were about 10 to 15 dogs in a kennel and they were all jumping up on the fence wanting us to pick them. My heart was crying for all of them. But none stood out. Then underneath all of them there he was trying so hard to get through the others, getting romped on and being pushed down, my heart smiled. I walked away in one direction and my husband went another to go look at the larger dogs. The whole group followed him, but Rizzo stayed on my end, he stood up on the fence and gave me those loving eyes, I knew then he was the one. I took him out and put him in the greeting pen, he was all mangy, dirty and thin. My husband said “are you sure you want him? He looks a little ragged”. I said “no he’s the one” From that day on he was the love of my life.
He loved to have me pick him up turn him on his back and lay across my lap, my husband always told me to quit molesting him because I was always kissing him. Or he’d walk in the room me holding him and say poor Rizzo, mommy’s molesting you again. I couldn’t get enough of kissing him. He was soooo soft. When he would roll on the floor then get up the hair on his ears and head would be full of static and sticking up all over. We called him our little hippie. When we would come home, didn’t matter if we were gone for 1 minute or 1 hour he’d act like we had been gone forever and would jump up on me, always smiling and so happy to see me.
I called him my second husband, we had lots of nicknames for him and he came to all of them. I called him my snooky snookums, my huckleberry, lover boy and so many others. My husband called him his little buddy.
He had been through a lot medically, he almost died from pancreatitis, had pee gravel surgically removed from his stomach, for some reason he loved eating cat doo he had lots of other issues. We called him our million dollar dog. We spent a fortune in vet bills. But he was worth every penny. In the end, 3 vets couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Ultrasound showed everything was good. We were waiting on blood work. The night before he passed, he struggled to climb up on me; he laid his head on my chest. He was saying good bye, I just knew it. His eyes were tired, his body was tired. The next morning while talking to the vet about the blood work, he took his last breath. My heart has never felt heavier then that moment. He passed at 8:15 January 23rd 2012. He was 13.
His furry friends will miss him as well. They are Ruger, Moose, his wife Roxie, His kitty buddy Kui, and Turbo. Even though there are all the other animals, his presence is everywhere I go.I get comfort in knowing he is in heaven playing with Taz (who passed in 08) and Balou (10). And I look forward to seeing him again.
“WE LOVE YOU RIZZO MAY GOD HOLD YOU AND COMFORT YOU, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN”.
