At 7:30 p.m. on August 27, we lost Sarah, our beloved black Labrador. We had 18 wonderful years of her in our lives. She had a fun couple of hours before Dr. Cooney arrived. She chased pine cones (well…kinda lunged toward them…), went for a walk with the family, pooped a couple of times (this time NOT on the carpet), barked at shadows, met the neighbors who were also out and about, sniffed familiar and unfamiliar spots along the way, etc. Dr. Cooney was very gentle with Sarah and she helped her go very peacefully. We take comfort in the fact that she’s having a blast now with Goldie, our yellow Labrador that we had for 13 years, and that her inner puppy is now released and is free to roam at will. And someday, we too, will join her to romp around, play and celebrate the reunion. For now, we miss the heck outta her…and chuckle that she got the last word: she let out a whopper of a stinky “poot” after her last breath…God love her!
