Shaman

November 18, 2016 by

Shaman, my blue Siamese cat passed away on April 24, 2008, 3 days after my birthday. Shaman came into our lives in 2000 after I had suffered the loss of another pet. I went to the Boulder Humane Society and wanted to save someone that day, so I asked them who had been there the longest and needed a home. They pointed me to Shaman who had been in a cage there for a few months. His age on the ticket said 10 years, so I could see why people might not have chosen him, but I had just lost a sickly young cat at 2 years old and felt that if this older cat could survive this long, then he must have good karma. So I took him home and he has been a wonderful pet and companion for the last 8 years. He was very loving, and would lay with me on the couch and in bed always and never tired of being petted or fed! He always had a friendly, mellow disposition. He was my constant companion when I broke my ankle some years ago and was in bed for months healing. And when my husband passed away in 2006, he was a soft, warm friend to sleep with. His health was always good until 8 months ago, when the slow decline of aging took its’ toll. Since I don’t know his real age, we still estimate he lived 16-18 years. He was such a lovely soul, and with the help of Kathleen, died with much grace and through this process of helping to release him from his suffering, has taught me how to let go. I shall miss him very much. Thank you Shaman.
