Shelby was our beautiful little girl. She has quite a story. She became our companion, part of our family when she was three and a half years old. The first three years of her life were not very good. After being abused by her first family, she was abandoned at the groomer we used for our other four legged family members, Molson and Ice, two pigs. Shelby lived at the groomers for a short time, then Christmas 1997 she came into our lives. We actually started our family in 1997, as I was just getting out of an abusive marriage and into a great relationship. We are from Massachusetts and we all lived in a small home until 2005. We added another family member in that time named Smokey. Shelby was a small American Eskimo and Smokey is a German Shepard/mix. Shelby would terrorize Smokey when he was a puppy. Smokey grew up with the utmost respect for Shelby as they were like brother and sister and they understood second chances in life. In 2005, we had the opportunity to move to Fort Collins, CO where our two four legged kids would have a big backyard, lots of fresh air and lots of places to take walks, and a bigger house that they could explore and we all shared. In Fort Collins, we rescued two more companions, both boys, named Scully and Seven. Shelby was now the older sister of three brothers. Although she was smaller than the boys, what she said went. In 2005, Shelby, a purebred American Eskimo was diagnosed with Cushions Disease. We took many trips to Front Range Vet, where they cared for her condition and helped save her life. Shelby had a hard life with her disease, but we had a happy life together. When she became part of our family, we helped each other move on from our abusive pasts. She was one of my best friends, our little angel that never complained and always listened. She helped raise three younger dogs and taught them respect. Her younger brothers and I were with her to the end. She passed away in the home she loved surrounded by love from her family. Shelby was 16 years old when she passed away. She lived a long, happy life, but it doesn’t seem like we had enough time together. She grew with our family and she will always have a place in our hearts. We will miss her. She has always been our little angel, and now we know she is with God and has no more pain. We love you Shelby and miss you dearly.
