Skeeter Marie

November 19, 2016 by

Skeeter Marie Atkinson Bowen passed away Sunday afternoon at her home in the comfort of her favorite chair in the arms of her human mother.  Born on June 29,1997 in Arnett, Oklahoma to Buddy Checkers and Love Bug, Skeeter moved to Petland in Crossroads Mall where she was adopted by her forever family.  Skeeter means “mosquito” in Texan, a name that affectionately captured her longstanding pest-like ways.  She also went by “Skeeter Marie”, “Skeetwheezer”, “Skeewee”, and “Poopy Brain”.  Her human brother, Trevor, was convinced at an early age that she was actually a rare siberian rabbit. Skeeter tended to dominate everything in her surrounds including at one point two dogs, three cats, and 3 humans.   It is suspected that some of this behavior is explained by her breed’s close association with Chinese royalty before there was an attempt to exterminate Shih Tzus in the Peoples Revolution.  A happy, happy girl, Skeeter never lacked for plenty of dopamine and serotonin.   She loved walks, food, greenies, sleeping on the bed, tormenting Zeke, fetching a ball, barking, rolling over on command, and challenging really, really, really big dogs.  She did not like her frequent trips to the beauty shop, or high glycemic carbs.   She enjoyed sleeping in, whenever possible.  A little on the adventurous side, Skeeter ran away twice in her life, once ending up at the Boulder Humane Society, and once at the nighttime depository of the Denver Dumb Friends League.  She and her human mother were bff’s, with only the typical conflicts arising between two females who are both angling for the title “Empress of the Universe.”  She was the tingling spirit of our home, our clown and goofball.  And we’re not quite sure what we will do without her.  We know she is on her way, looking for her buddies who passed before her, stirring up love, and stirring up trouble.  What a gift to spend this life with you, sweet girl…
