Christmas morning, a two month old adorable husky puppy came out of a surprise box wrapped as a present for my 11 and 4 year old son…
plus a tabby kitten!
We met her 3 days earlier while waiting for Santa
at a Fort Collins mall.
It was not the plan to get a puppy that day at all…
only a barn tabby kitten.
… but Zeus stole our hearts!
Our petite female husky was named Zeus by my two sons.
“Zeusy Girl” became a beloved nickname by the ladies of the family.
Zeus loved holidays and opening her presents, she enjoyed Halloween trick or treaters and going to the door each time while I handed out candy. She especially loved when the whole family was all together hanging out for holidays and laying at their feet.
She has added so much adventure, stories, and unconditional love to our lives.
No matter where she went with us, it became an event.
She was a beauty with crystal light blue eyes that could stare thru your soul.
The amount of attention and adoration she received was amazing, she was always graceful, agile, and kind.
She was a Houdini at best.
She could get out of anything and did so too many times to count.
She so loved her freedom and was a
bold risk taker.
Zeus would break free with any opportunity, out of any leash, any fence, or gate. She’d blaze thru gleefully in the middle of my kid’s soccer game at Eastman Park or Windsor’s
Mud Volley Ball game day…
She’d head all over Water Valley, and my oldest son would have to be very strategic to catch her and carry her back. Of course, she never came when called,
it was a big game to her…lol.
She had a blast! With neighborhood kids trying to help catch her with hot dogs or bacon treats, she got caught once by an animal shelter, which sent me to court with a hefty fine.
She even jumped a fence in Denver at my sister’s and was unharmed after passing a busy street several times before a nice neighbor intervened for her safety.
She was blessed, and we were blessed to have an amazing run with her!
She liked to eat anything I was eating, even arugula, Brazil nuts, pistachios, carrots, and she would even get into a hidden stash of chocolate too
She was indestructible!
She was a fun, accepting best friend…always ready to go jump in the car
with us.
Such a beautiful, loving, sweet dog!
On our long walks, she always pulled, loved to lead, which worked great going up the hill, but was challenging going down.
She was our water loving dog, an avid paddleboarder with me and my sons (she’d still need tethered to the board), she’d chill on the paddle boat and swim to the island with us in Water Valley every summer weekend. In her favorite season, she’d roll in every snow bank she could escape to.
She was our sweet girl, she was my
furry-fun co-parent to make memories with for my son’s childhood…
when life was not so easy of a time.
She made it joyful!
She was all soul, all love and adventure…
She was a wild beauty… that did not know she was a dog.
I’m so grateful she came into our life when she did and we were blessed to have her so long with great health,
until she was 15 years old.
She is forever free now,
a week ago today… at 17 1/2 years old.
She had one last Easter Holiday together with family. Then the next day her legs were giving in… on concrete, (not counting the times we were helping her up from the hardwood floors inside)
her strong will persisted, we all persisted with her as she kept walking her path, going gate to gate in her backyard…
until she could not get up on the back step again.
I had to take the toughest action of all …
surrendering Zeus, “our Zeusy Girl” on
April 23, 2025.
Zeus is irreplaceable…
She was the best… for us.
She is
forever missed
and
forever loved!
